Noise limiters, also known as environmental noise control systems, noise pollution control system or sound limiters, are now a prerequisite in many parts of the UK for the granting or renewal of an entertainment licence.

Most local authorities and environmental health officers require the installation of an electronic noise limiter in village halls, pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants, health clubs and other entertainment venues to minimise complaints regarding noise pollution.

As from April 2008 entertainment venues have to comply with The Control of Noise at Work Regulations to ensure that workers hearing is protected.
